Laundry Detergent Monday!
Well, it’s Monday!
The weekend was long and to be honest I love a Monday morning! I just love getting back into my daily routine, after a very out of ordinary weekend. This particular Monday is laundry detergent making Monday. I have had family and friends to ask me to post my “recipe”. I would love to take credit for my “recipe”, but I can’t. I first found it many years ago on a homeschool mom’s blog. It has been so long ago, that I am sorry to say, I do not remember which one. None-the-less, I am ever so grateful. I have tweaked it here and there, and my “way” follows with a few photos.
I gather my ingredients:
1 bar grated Fels-Naptha (I place the bar of soap in the microwave for 30 to 45 seconds to make the grating process much easier. Make sure you break the bar apart to quickly cool it to avoid burning your fingers).
1 1/2 cup washing soda
1 cup Borax
1/2 jar of my favorite Gain fragrance
First things first, I add the grated soap to my pot, then add four cups water and simmer until the soap has melted and looks like the following photo:
When the soap is totally melted, add the washing soda, stir, then add the Borax, stir, then the fragrance.
Pour this mixture into a 5 gallon bucket, add hot tap water to fill the bucket to nearly full. Stir the mixture very well, and put the bucket lid onto the bucket. Let set overnight, then open the lid and stir the mixture very well. You can keep the mixture in the bucket or place into smaller containers.
I use 1/4 cup for lightly soiled clothing, and 1/2 for very soiled clothing.
You can use this mixture to pre-treat stubborn stains, as well.
Happy Monday! 🙂
Share Your Blessings!
I will soon turn 47, for the second time! I know you are probably thinking, “she has lost IT!” Let me explain. Last year, I made up my mind, that I was 46 and on my birthday, I would turn 47. I actually thought I was 47, until an appointment with my doctor, to get treatment for an upper respiratory infection. During the assessment, the doctor ask my age, then the year that I was born, then she said, umm…..you aren’t 47, you are 46!!! Which means, when I thought I was 46, I was actually 45, and so on.
On Friday, I had to travel to my county DMV to renew my license. Yea, I have to admit I was dreading the visit, for a couple of reasons. One, I really liked my current photo on my license, it was taken 10 years ago. So, I had to fix my hair, put on makeup, and hope for the best. Two, the long wait just to get the updated photo, isn’t on my list of favorite things to do. As I often do, when faced with a negative, I decided to keep a smile on my face, and continue to do so, no matter what happened, beyond those double glass doors of the DMV.
As expected, the line was long, and only a couple of clerks were on duty. I kept my positive attitude, and decided to look around for someone to start a conversation. I made eye contact with a few people, smiled, and they smiled back, but none of those were close enough to talk. So, I finally made it to the point to pick up my application, and proceeded to my chair and began to fill it out . Before I had time to finish my paper work, my number was called, and I jumped up, signing my signature at the bottom as I walked to the desk. Can you say multitask? My heart sped up a bit, and I just kept smiling, in spite of my nervousness. I always get nervous, when it’s time to do the eye test, because I wonder at what age, my eyes will need glasses for driving. I passed the test, but had to keep repeating the last four digits of the line. I was trying to figure which number I was getting wrong, but I kept saying the same, as I had read each time. I was really getting nervous!
When I finished, the clerk stated that she couldn’t hear me, because the man beside me was talking very loudly. Well, he was to my left deaf ear, and I didn’t even hear him. I told her that I had lost the hearing in my left ear, after a bad head cold a few years ago. I told her, my hearing loss really gets on my husband’s nerves; when he is trying to talk to me, and I can’t make out what he is saying. I was jabbering away, I guess I was still feeling my nerves a bit.
Well, here comes the blessing of my day. I was so not expecting to get a blessing, at the DMV. The clerk shared a story of her son’s sudden loss of his eye sight. I will share this story as best as I can, as she was very soft spoken, and suffer from the a fore mentioned hearing loss.
Her son was a state highway worker, and was mowing the side of the road. Another vehicle hit him from the rear, and caused the mower to hit the ground very hard, and this threw him up, causing him to hit his head. The brain damage from that hit, caused permanent damage to his left optic nerve, and he lost his ability to see out of that eye. His right eye, was his weak eye, and he couldn’t see very well, at all. She shared that one day, during his recovery from the accident, she had picked up some movies for him to watch. He tried to watch them, but finally told her to turn the TV off, because he could not see what was on the screen. Her eyes teared up, and she touched her heart, as did I. When another parent shares their child’s pain with you, you immediately understand and feel the same kind of ache. I had no concept as to my surroundings at that time. She then shared the miracle with me. With many prayers and much faith, his weak eye began to get stronger. He then, became a candidate for corrective surgery, and now he can see very well. I was so blessed at that very moment, and I became very thankful that God put me in that place at the right moment.
I thanked her for sharing her story with me, and told her, that she had made me day. She finished processing my license, and we shared a pleasant goodbye. For the next ten years, every time I look at my license, I will remember that wonderful clerk’s blessing. Also, I will remember my blessings. If I have to show my license for any reason, and someone mentions the smile on my face; I hope that I will get to share my DMV experience again and again!
So, if you are ever at the DMV, and you wonder what is taking those clerks so long, stay positive, you might just find out; like me, someone might be having a moment of being BLESSED!

AN ANGEL STORY:
Yes, even at Walmart, there are angels! Today was my second encounter with an angel at Walmart (I’ll save the first story for later). My encounter happened after my X-Ray appointment, and I was feeling the need to pick up a “few” items. I had to go, I was out of everything, esp. since my accident, and being confined to the couch! Fortunately, I was able to grab a shopping scooter and traveled the store over to place all of my needed items in the scooter basket. That was easy enough, but as I approached the cashier, I could foresee a problem. You guessed it, “How was I going to get the items out of the basket, and back into the basket, and into my Tahoe”? Well, I turned around and noticed a lady with just two items, and I offered to let her go ahead of me. She said that she wasn’t in a big hurry, and declined my offer. Before I knew what had happened, she was emptying my basket, and reloading them back into my basket, just as quickly! Then she offered to help me in my car. I have to admit, in the back of my mind, I did wonder if she might have other plans! But, just as quickly as the thought entered my mind, my heart pushed it away, and I was compelled (I believe by the Holy Spirit) to allow her to help me. Now, just so you know, I have no problem helping others, but I do have a hard time allowing others to help me.
Anyway, she was a pure angel, and her name was “MARY”!!!!!!
THANKS, MARY!
YOU MADE MY DAY, AND I WON’T FORGET YOUR SERVANT HEART!!!!!!

“Following the path that God has established for us, determines the blessings that fall upon our “lives”. It is a choice that we must make, of our own free will. When you answer a call from Him, He will equip you with the ability to do his will. His wisdom surpasses any earthly education, so seek His knowledge and understanding; do not be misled by those with evil intentions. If you are a child of God you will not be overcome by evil, instead, evil will be overcome by good.”

“If you do not feel you have done anything good in your life, it’s not too late! Go out and start today, and take the love of Jesus with you! With Jesus’ help, YOU ARE GOOD!”
“Let Jesus fill your heart with an “AGAPE” love! This kind of love will help you to love others, through sickness or health, and help you to show the love of Jesus, even to those that refuse Him.”
Journal entry on my birthday!

”THANKS FOR THE SIGNAL”
This morning, as I was working in the turkey barns, I decided to enjoy my day: even though the turkeys were meaner than ever! I selected Kari Jobe on my iPhone, and got my praise on, while I walked each barn. I started to count my blessings, esp. the blessing of another birthday. As I walked and listened to my praise music, I started getting a tone through my earphones, which signaled a text message. Those signals were coming from all of you here on FB; it was like a gift every time one of you sent me a birthday wish. Well, I couldn’t help, but know just how blessed, I really am. I can’t respond to all of you one by one, but know that ALL of you are special blessings to me.
I have an awesome God that looks after me and will continue to do so, all the days of my life. I am healthy. I have two wonderful children, who fill my life with countless blessings. I have three sisters, and one brother, and in-laws, which I count as treasures in my life. A mom like no other, who
raised me to be the woman that I am, today. I have a Deddy in Heaven celebrating his eighth year with the Lord TODAY on my birthday, and I know he is having a great ol’ time picking and grinning, with all the bluegrass saints there!!! I have a church family who mean the world to me; I love them all so very much!
My personal belief is, we are all here to make the lives of others more meaningful, and we are here to give all that we can to those that God puts in our path. We aren’t here to have friends, but to be a friend to others. I love the saying: It’s not about US! On special days, such as today, we do have to receive gifts, and they are so dear to me. I receive each and every one of your birthday wishes, and I do not take any of them for granted. My day has been much more pleasant because you took the time to “signal” me, and remind me just how much I am blessed. THANK YOU ALL!!!
